Glass Shield Relief World Map (year 1585) – 231321.

In 1585 a commemorated world map was painted with this glass shield. As you can see, although the map is not geographically accurate, it has another meaning – the great importance that the city of Jerusalem received even in the Middle Ages when it is presented as the center of the world, probably also as a hint of its importance as its spiritual center. Also, the city of Jerusalem is the only one on the map shown alone and in such detail which reinforces the hypothesis that the map is also symbolic.
